Four PhD students from the BonePainII network gave a poster presentation at the recent IASP 2022 World Congress on Pain on 19-23 September 2022 in Toronto, Canada. It is a leading conference within the international pain community for pain professionals from around the world. The International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) organizes the congress.

Lydia Moll from Cellectricon in Sweden is conducting her PhD research to develop “disease in a dish” microfluidic co-culture models to study bone and nerve cell interactions and their possible contributions to bone pain. She had the opportunity to present her poster on “Characterization of compartmentalized high-capacity in vitro co-cultures for the study of chronic pain”, while Diego Valiente Cerro from King’s College London, UK, presented his poster on “Functionality of Diffuse Noxious Inhibitory Controls in a female rat model of cancer-induced bone pain”. 

 

At poster stand 340, Nils Simon from Karolinska Institutet in Sweden could bring interested visitors up to speed on his work into how autoantibody driven bone erosion and elucidate novel links to chronic pain in rheumatoid arthritis. The title of his poster was “Monoclonal anti-citrullinated protein antibody 1325:04C03 causes pain-like behavior in mice by osteoclast stimulation, CXCL1/2 and NGF signaling”.

Chelsea Hopkins from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark is studying pain mechanisms in an animal model of fibrous dysplasia in her PhD project.  She presented her poster virtually at the congress. The title of her poster was “Characterization of Bone Pain in a Mouse Model of Fibrous Dysplasia”.  

The world congress offered excellent opportunities for networking for the BonePainII PhD students and gave way for many interesting discussions. The full programme of the congress is available here.
