Stefania Kalogera and Khaled Mohamed conduct their research projects at Nordic Bioscience  in Denmark. On 7 October 2020 they gave a virtual tour of Nordic Bioscience to their fellow PhD students in the network. 

Nordic Bioscience is a world-leading biomarker (extracellular matrix) specialist, which offers customized development of highly disease-specific biochemical markers for diagnosis and prognosis of various diseases. The company has more than 30 years’ experience in biomarker development and clinical trials. It offers particularly extensive expertise in rheumatology and fibrosis. 

The tour showed the facilities of the biotec company and gave insight behind the scenes. It also featured short interviews with key colleagues at Nordic Bioscience, who presented their work.

Following this, Nordic Bioscience Director of Endocrinology, Kim Henriksen and Director of Rheumatology, Anne-Christine Bay-Jensen, gave talks on Development of DACRAs for the treatment of metabolic conditions and Biomarkers and pain related outcomes in osteoarthritis, followed by discussion with the early stage researchers about the challenges in this field. 

The session also kick-started the BonePainII Information Career Talks Series with a talk by Kim Henriksen on his career and the choices he had made along the way. 

These sessions had been planned for the first annual BonePainII network meeting in spring 2020, but now took place virtually due to Covid-19. It was great to see the all the early stage researchers again.
